   Introduction

1.  Pit bull is the common name for a type of dog descended from bulldogs and terriers.
    

2. The pit bull type is particularly ambiguous as it encompasses a range of pedigree breeds, informal types and appearances that cannot be reliably identified.

3. Formal breeds often considered to be of the pit bull type include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Stafford shire Terrier, American Bully, and Stafford shire Bull Terrier.

4. The American Bulldog is also sometimes included. Mixed-breed dogs which physically resemble these breeds often get labelled as "pit bulls" by shelters. Many of these breeds were originally developed as fighting dogs from cross breeding bull-baiting dogs (used to hold the faces and heads of larger animals such as bulls) and terriers.

5. After the use of dogs in blood sports was banned, such dogs were used as catch dogs in the United States for semi-wild cattle and hogs, to hunt and drive livestock, and as family companions.

6. Despite dog fighting now being illegal in the United States, it still exists as an underground activity, and pit bulls are a common type used.

    

   Dogs Attack Risk    

        Violent interactions between humans and canines have been studied by the US government,    notably the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as academic veterinary researchers.
 The interpretation of these studies, breed identification and relevance issues, and variable circumstances have given rise to intense controversy.

In a 2014 literature review of dog bite studies, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AV-MA) states that breed is a poor sole predictor of dog bites.
 Controlled studies have not identified pit bulls as disproportionately dangerous.
While pit bull-type dogs are more frequently identified with cases involving very severe injuries or fatalities than other breeds, the review suggests this may relate to the popularity of the breed, noting that sled dogs and Siberian Huskies were involved in a majority of fatal dog attacks in some areas of Canada.

      

  Pit bull Diet Tips              

1.    It is important to feel your Pit Bull a high-protein, low-grain dog food with meat as the first ingredient. Never feed your pit bull a dog food that contains corn, wheat or potatoes because many dogs have allergens to these ingredients.

2. The most important component of any dog's diet is protein. This is especially true for large, high-energy dogs like pit bulls. Wheat, corn and potatoes are allergens for many dogs, and pit bulls are especially prone to skin and coat problems. Consequently, you should ensure that the first ingredient in store-bought pet food is meat, and avoid foods that contain lots of fillers. Follow the feeding instructions on the food package. If you are feeding a homemade diet, feed your dog 2 to 4 percent of your dog's total body weight daily. 

3. Very young puppies should eat softened dry food two to three times daily. After a puppy is fully weaned, continue feeding two to three times per day, using a high-quality puppy food made for large breeds until the dog is about twelve months of age. Adult pit bulls can eat once or twice per day. If you opt to feed your dog twice per day, make sure that you give your dog half of their daily food allowance at each meal. Obese dogs may thrive eating once daily, but some dogs tend to become whiny and restless if they only eat once per day.
